The HCG Diet–Is it Possible to Lose a Pound a Day Without Exercise?

The HCG diet protocol was developed by British Endocrinologist, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950′s using the pregnancy hormone to trick the body into shedding those stubborn, abnormal fat stores and releasing them into the blood stream where they could be used by the body for nutrition and fuel. Vitamin B12 supplements and a very low (500 calories) diet completed this weight loss program. Initially, Dr. Simeons designed the program around the injected form of HCG because that is what was available then.

No Exercise While Taking HCG

One of the things that appeals to those who are following the HCG diet is that there is no need to spend hours working out in the gym in order to start to see results on the scale. Followers of the HCG diet program typically lose at least a pound a day and sometimes even two without exercise.

How can that be possible?

Well, as those abnormal fat stores are liberated and then burned for nutrition and energy it eliminates the need to do exercise to burn fat. When a person exercises to build lean muscle, which ravenously burns fat for fuel, they are increasing the amount of energy that they consume, which increases the appetite. Since the HCG is already doing the work of passively burning the fat, those following the HCG diet are advised not to exercise as that will only serve to increase their appetite beyond the capacity of the 500 calorie restricted diet to satisfy them and give them fuel to accomplish their daily tasks.
